The Ultimate Guide to a Memorable Wedding Exit

There’s something so magical about a wedding exit. Your guests are cheering, and after months (or years) of planning, you finally get a moment to soak it all in together. Whether you envision sparkling lights, colorful streamers, or a classic bubble send-off, your exit is the perfect ending to an unforgettable celebration.

One of the biggest things we tell our couples? Don’t rush it.

Your exit is not just about getting from point A to point B. It’s a moment. A memory. A chance to pause, celebrate, and truly take in the excitement of the night.

Popular Wedding Exit Ideas

Bubbles

Bubbles are timeless, romantic, and photograph beautifully. They work especially well for daytime weddings or venues that don’t allow sparklers. Plus, they create a dreamy, almost cinematic look in photos.

A few tips for bubble exits:

  • Use wedding-specific bubble wands for the best effect

  • Consider purchasing a bubble machine for your planner to use to create a fuller, more dramatic bubble exit.

Sparklers

Sparklers are one of the most iconic wedding exits for a reason. The glow creates such a fun and energetic atmosphere, especially for evening weddings.

For the best sparkler exit:

  • Use long sparklers (usually 20–36 inches)

  • Make sure your venue allows them before purchasing

And most importantly, walk slowly. Couples often move way too fast because they feel awkward with everyone watching, but slower is always better for photos and video.

Streamers

Streamers create such a fun, celebratory feel and add incredible movement to photos. They’re perfect for couples wanting something playful and colorful.

There are a few ways to incorporate streamers:

  • Handheld ribbon streamers guests can wave

  • Streamer poppers that release long rolled streamers into the air

These work especially well for receptions with a lively party atmosphere and can feel a little more unique than a traditional sparkler exit.

Pom Poms

Pom poms are underrated for wedding exits, but they can be such a fun option, especially for tented weddings, coastal celebrations, or couples wanting a softer, more playful aesthetic.

They photograph beautifully in motion and are great for venues that have restrictions on fire or cleanup-heavy exits.

You can customize pom poms to match your color palette, making them feel intentional and cohesive with your overall design. Pom Poms

 Cold Sparklers

For couples looking to make a statement, a cold sparkler exit creates a stunning and memorable send-off. The sparkling fountains of light photograph beautifully and provide a more consistent effect than traditional sparklers. Just be sure to check with your venue, as some require a licensed vendor for operation.

How to Make Your Wedding Exit Successful

Don’t Rush

The biggest mistake couples make during their exit is rushing through it. You’ve spent your entire wedding day surrounded by your favorite people, let yourself enjoy those final moments.

Walk slowly. Smile. Look at each other. Look at your guests. Take it all in.

The slower pace not only creates better photos, but it also allows you to actually experience the moment instead of speeding through it.

Pause for a Dip or Kiss

One of our favorite moments during an exit is when couples stop halfway for a quick dip, kiss, or embrace.

It creates such a cinematic photo moment and gives your photographer and videographer time to capture those reactions and movement shots.

End with a Fun Getaway Vehicle

Nothing finishes an exit quite like a fun getaway car. Whether it’s a vintage convertible, a classic Rolls Royce, a trolley, or even a boat, the getaway vehicle becomes part of the experience.

It also gives couples a quiet moment together after the excitement of the reception.

We like to remind couples to not immediately drive away. Once you get inside the vehicle, pause for a minute. Wave to your guests. Laugh together. Take a deep breath. Those little in-between moments often become some of the most special memories from the night.

Final Thoughts

Your wedding exit is the final chapter of your celebration, and it deserves just as much thought as every other moment of the day. Whether you choose bubbles, sparklers, streamers, or pom poms, the key to a successful exit is simple: Slow down. Be present. Celebrate together. And don’t forget to have fun with it.

Because at the end of the night, it’s not about perfectly staged photos, it’s about soaking in the feeling of just married.
